Buttermilk Onion Strings

These onion strings are great on burgers. If you cut the onions thicker you can make onion rings to accompany your burger instead.

I recommend using a deep fryer. If you don’t have one use a deep pan with 1 inch of oil.

For 4 burgers

Ingredients

1 large onion (2 onions for rings)
2 cups of buttermilk
2 cups of all-purpose flour
Salt for seasoning

Instructions

  • Peel the onion and slice it thin (1/6 inch). For onion rings cut them 1 inch thick.
  • Separate each slice into individual rings
  • Dredge onion rings in a bowl with the flour. Tap off excess flour
  • Dip rings into a bowl with buttermilk and cover, allow excess to drip off
  • Dredge the rings back into the flour to cover each ring evenly
  • Start your deep fryer and set the temperature for 375F degrees
  • Once hot, fry the rings for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown
  • Drain the rings on paper towels and season immediately with salt

Serve hot. Enjoy.
