Del’s Charcoal Burgers is a small burger joint located in downtown Richardson, Texas. I was surprised to see that it was a very busy place and they actually had quite a few tables inside.
They had a pretty comprehensive burger menu with maybe 10 different burgers. All priced at $7.50 with fries, drinks and sales tax. I went with the Texas style burger with jalapenos, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and BBQ sauce.
I saw into the kitchen and their grill was often on fire (in a good way). It seems that they definitely grill them over charcoal. All burgers were cooked medium-well.
The wait was ten minutes or so and during that time the place pretty much filled up. That was definitely a good sign and I was looking forward to the burger.
Our number was yelled and we got the burgers. My first impressions was that the fries looked better than average and sure enough they were great. Definitely cooked from frozen but wonderfully crisp on the outside and soft and delicate on the inside. Their curly fries were also very good.
The burger was very good also. The patty was 1/3 lbs fresh beef and dressed adequately with BBQ sauce. The jalapenos were not too hot and the meat was maybe a little dry but the burger itself was overall nice and juicy. The cheese on the burger was shredded and not melted on the patty, which I think is a petty. I prefer mine melted and not cold like on this burger, but overall the burger was definitely way above average.
Del’s Charcoal Burger is definitely worth visiting if you are in the Richardson area.
