Is there anything better than some nice tater tots with you homemade burgers? Maybe so, but it comes pretty close to the ultimate side dish to a burger.
You may think they are difficult to make, but it is really super easy, especially if you have a deep fryer. If you don’t, use a deep pan with 1 inch of oil.
Serves 4
Ingredients
4 large Russet Idaho Potatoes
1 medium red onion
1/2 bunch chives, cut fine
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees
- Bake the potatoes for 15 minutes (they will still be firm)
- Take the potatoes out of the oven and let cool enough to handle
- Shred the potatoes and onion into a bowl
- Add chives and fresh ground pepper
- Mix by hand for 1-2 minutes until completely mixed
- Wet hands and start shaping 1 inch balls of the potato mixture. Make sure they are very firm without shreds sticking out. You can shape them to any form you like.
- Wet your hands as needed so the mixture doesn’t stick
- Prepare deep fryer or deep pan with 1 inch of oil. Heat to 375F degrees
- Fry for 3-5 minutes until golden brown
- Take out of oil and put on baking sheets lined with paper towels
- Season immediately with salt
Enjoy with ketchup or your favorite condiments.
