Hopdoddy is a weird name for a burger restaurant or for any restaurant for that matter. You inevitably think that they misspelled daddy in the name, but according to the menu, the nonsense word “hopdoddy” celebrates the “perfect union of burgers and beer: handcrafted beer (hop) + (doddy), the nickname given to the native cow in Aberdeen, Scotland.”. Their concept is high-end natural meat burgers where the quality is in top.
The restaurant was very contemporary both from the outside and the inside. Use of glass and stainless steel was very elaborate and the place was super busy. The whole ordering process was very streamlined: you were assigned a table even before you ordered at the counter. The wait to order was less than a minute even though they were very busy. The menu featured more than ten different burgers and I selected “El Diablo” burger with Angus Beef, Pepper Jack, Caramelized Onions, Habanero and Serrano Chiles, Salsa Roja, Chipotle Mayo. It was supposedly very hot according to the girl that took the order. We also ordered a side of truffle fries with parmasan.
The wait was very short, less than 5 minutes and the burgers were served on nice little aluminum plates. Both the burgers and the fries looked fantastic. The burger was spicy, but certainly not as hot as I would have expected, but it had a wonderful taste. The meat was cooked well-done, but unlike other places Hopdoddy was using meat with higher fat content, which allowed the meat to still be very juicy. The peppers were plenty and in some bites I could definitely taste the hotness of the peppers. I thought the whole burger including the bun were exceptional! The fries were homemade and seasoned to perfection and were crisp and warm. They certainly knew how to cook fries in this place and they were probably some of the best fries I’ve ever had.
Hopdoddy is making high-end burgers and fries. This is the place you want to go if you like to get some of the best burgers you can possibly get. The fries don’t get any better than this and scores a rare 10 out of 10 in my book. This place is awesome and I will be back soon!
