Is there such a thing as a healthy burger?

There is nothing more mouth watering than to wrap your lips around a juicy burger, filled with melted cheese and gherkins But, enjoying these too often might start to become noticeable. So here are some tips on how to still enjoy your favorite fast food without as much fat.

Have you ever looked online to find out the nutritional content of our favorite fast food? If you visit the McDonald’s website for example, you can view exactly what ingredients go into their products, as well as a calorie chart. This helps people to select a snack more easily if they are watching their fat intake. So if you are browsing the web, playing partypoker or looking up nutritional charts of food from your favorite restaurants, then why not try cooking your very own custom made burger instead. This way, you can select fresh ingredients, lean meats and soft freshly baked bread, which not only makes it much healthier, but it’s delicious too.

By grilling a lean cut of meat, drastically reduces the fat amount. As you grill the meat, the small amounts of fat that are in the cut, drip into the grooves. This differs from frying the meat, where the cut is being cooked in the fat, absorbing it as it browns.

In addition, you can add some color and vitamins to your snack by chopping fresh tomatoes, lettuce and gherkins, giving an extra crunch.

For an even healthier version, vegetarian burgers are always low in fat. Buying quorn meat is high in protein and can be made into a burger. Alternatively, try making your own vegetable mix by processing beans, and chick peas to create your own bean burger. This is perfectly complimented with Halloumi cheese.

However, if you would rather eat out, then try opting for a grilled chicken burger, rather than a deep fried one, or choose leaner meats like turkey or even bread-crumbed fish patties.
