Made-Rite Hamburger

This hamburger is different than any other hamburger you probably tried. Some may say it isn’t a burger some may say it is. I am one of the ones that think it is. It has hamburger meat between two buns; that makes it a hamburger in my eyes.

A Made-Rite burger is a “loose meat” burger. It has its roots in Muscatine, Iowa and is a deconstructed hamburger or a sloppy Joe without the slop. It is still a very popular burger in the state of Iowa and I decided to make my version of the Maid-Rite burger.

Maid-Rite Burger

Makes 4 burgers

Ingredients

2 lbs of ground chuck (80% lean)
1 beer of your own choice
French’s Yellow mustard
Pickles
1 Chopped onion
Salt to taste
4 soft buns

Instructions

  • Over medium high heat place a cast-iron pan and let it warm for a couple of minutes
  • Add beef to pan and use the blade of a spatula to chop up the meat until pebbly
  • Add beer and turn the heat up to high
  • Add 5-6 squirts of mustard and stir to mix content
  • Cook over high heat until all beer has evaporated
  • Place pickles and chopped onions on bun and scoop meat onto buns (it’s okay to miss so it goes on the plate)
  • Place top bun on burger

Serve with beer. Enjoy.

What a horrible looking thing. Probably tastes great though.

@capguy. You are right. It tastes better than it looks. Overall it is not a great burger, but it is part of the burger family, so I made it. Probably won’t do it again though…
