My visit to In-N-Out in Allen, TX

I finally made it to the In-N-Out in Allen, TX. This location opened a few weeks back and the lines to get a burger have been absolutely crazy ever since they opened. Waiting time has been reported to be up to 3 hours just to get a burger; not exactly fast-food, right?

This time I arrived at 10:25 am and the place was already open. The drive-thru had a long line but there was really no line inside the restaurant. I managed to get to the cashier right away. I ordered two cheeseburgers. One regular style and one animal style. Animal style burger means a mustard-cooked beef patty with additional pickles, cheese, spread and grilled onions diced up and mixed together on the grill before getting dumped on your burger. I also ordered a side of regular fries and a drink.

I was amazed how many people were behind the counter. They had 5 cashiers and many more people behind them to expedite the orders. It was a very busy restaurant. The wait was around 5 minutes, which is all right for a fast food place.

My first impression of the burgers was very good. They definitely understand how to make the burgers look good and they look better than any other fast food burger I have ever tried. I would even say they look awesome!

I tried the animal style cheeseburger first. I know many absolutely love this style of burger, but not me. I thought it was, at best, horrible. The mustard and the pickles completely overpower this burger. There is nothing left to the meat or the cheese. I just don’t get it. Why does people like this style burger so much? I guess they must like mustard and pickles, because that’s what it tasted like; and nothing else.

When I got to the regular cheeseburger, things turned out much better. This was actually a pretty good burger. Nothing special, but a good average fast food burger. There is really nothing else to say about it. It was just an okay burger and one I could get at so many other fast food places.

The fries were awful. They were soft and almost dry. They were not the worst fries I’ve had, but pretty close.

I don’t understand what the hype is about In-N-Out. I know everyone flocks to the restaurant and claim that they make the best burgers in the world. Sorry, guys. If anyone thinks this is the best burger, they obviously have not tried many other places. I can understand how someone can argue that it’s better than McDonald’s or Burger King, but the BEST in the world? Really? You can’t be serious.

The price for two cheeseburgers with fries and a drink was around $8. That’s absolutely a good competitive price.

I really like the way you are served the burger. It actually looks like the picture unlike any other fast food place, where the burger looks nothing like the picture. Unfortunately the burger doesn’t deliver on taste. Unless you love mustard AND pickles, stay away from the animal style. Get the regular burger instead.

I recommend the regular burger, but don’t expect anything special. I would not wait in line for any period of time to get a burger here. Sorry, guys!

Much agreed! at best and “ok” burger. I don’t think I will go back unless one of my friends from California comes to visit. Even then, I will mock him/her, and go across the street to get something else to eat. Most likely Whataburger (much better).

I don’t get the hype either. My friends are afflicted with the same disease, thinking it is something special. My burgers “Double, Double Animal” were soggy, and didn’t have any mustard taste to them. The fries were awful, (cool and limp) and I didn’t want to finish them. I love fries!

After thinking about it, I concluded that these were miniature knock offs of a Jumbo Jack. Better value at Jack in the Box, and no lines!

Best burger I’ve found is at Stan’s in The Colony. Going to try Kenny’s in Frisco this weekend.
