My Visit to Red Robin – Vesuvius Burger

Red Robin is featuring the recipe of a kid chef in restaurants nationwide as part of the 5th annual Red Robin Kid’s Cook-Off. Twelve-year-old Donovan Duggins created the Mt. Vesuvius Burger (complete with bleu cheese, provolone, bacon and Donovan’s very own lava sauce), which will be available at all Red Robin restaurants from Tuesday, July 26 to Sunday, September 11 2011.

I was invited to try this burger so of course I went to try it out. I ordered mine medium.

My first impressions was that this was not a very large burger. Usually Red Robin makes quite large burgers but this one was on the smaller end of the spectrum. The bacon was very crisp and tasty and there was no lack of cheese in this burger. The blue cheese was very good but there was just not very much of it and mot of the burger had little blue cheese taste and only a few spots in the burger featured a very nice blue cheese. The lava sauce was a BBQ sauce with a weird after taste. Not my favorite sauce!

All in all a solid burger, but I not overly impressive. I would rate it 6 out of 10 which is alright but not something I will come back for. My suggestion is to go for their normal burgers. They are just much better.
