Smashburger is using the concept of smashing the burger when it is prepared. They start out by putting a meatball of beef on the grill and then smashing it flat during the cooking. See Burger Reference guide here for more info on smash burger.
This place was looking pretty new, and busy. It was clean and the style very fresh.
You stand in a line and get to order from one of two cashiers. The menu was pretty decent and there were many options for burgers, fries etc. See picture of menu below.
I ordered the Classic Smashburger in the ½ lbs version with Smashfries. I guess everything is Smash-something here. We got a number to display at the table.
The wait was 5 minutes and they brought the burgers out to us.
First impressions was that this was a good looking burger. They serve it open, so you can take things out you don’t want or add ketchup and mustard if you like. It is served on a wire tray, nice touch!
I tried the fries first. They were unbelievably crispy and had a subtle taste of rosemary to them. I must admit, I am not a rosemary fan, but this was quite ok and I will rate the fries as some of the best out there. Very good!
On to the burger. You can tell that it has been treated differently than just a normal grill or broiler would do to them. It actually looked smashed. The taste was pretty straight forward, it was a notch above an average burger but nothing in particular stood out. It was just another good fresh-made hamburger.
Their service was better than most other places. They will take your tray the moment you are done with it. They clean tables and checks that everything is ok. Also very good!
I will definitely recommend Smashburger, especially because of all the different option they have, that allows you to build your own burger experience.
