Taco Cheese Burger

The cheese burger is probably one of the most classic burgers there exists. The gooey cheese on top of the perfect grilled burger is so comforting and delicious.

I am also a big fan of Mexican food and I wanted to create a new burger based on the best of the two worlds: Mexican and American. The result is this wonderful Taco Cheese Burger.

It’s almost a deconstructed cheese burger in a taco and the emphasis is on the burger and maybe not so much on the Mexican cuisine, but you can also change it up and make it more Mexican if you like.

Serves 4

Ingredients

2 lbs of ground chuck (80% lean)
1 red onion, diced fine
2 tomatoes, diced coarsely
1 jalapeno pepper, diced fine
1/4 head of lettuce, shredded
4 slices of cheese (I used American)
4 flour tortillas
Your favorite condiments (I used ketchup and mayo, but feel free to add you own favorites)

Instructions

  • Shape 4 burgers loosely (see instructions how to handle the meat here)
  • Cook them in a cast iron pan over medium high heat for 3 minutes for medium
  • Flip the patties and place cheese on top of each patty. Cover with aluminum foil
  • Cook for 3 more minutes or until desired doneness is reached
  • Set aside covered
  • Heat the tortillas one by one in the same pan you cooked the burgers in, 30 seconds on each side
  • Place tortilla on plate, add lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos
  • Break the burger into 4-6 pieces and place on tortilla
  • Add condiments as desired

Serve immediately and enjoy!
