This cafe opened recently in Allen and is one of a few locations of The House Cafe in the Metroplex.
As usual I was going to check out their burgers and not their breakfast which they are most known for.
I selected the Big-D burger, a 8 oz burger with bacon and cheese and the traditional toppings along side with a serving of fries.
I asked for the burger to be cooked to medium. The wait was maybe 10 minutes and the overall impression was pretty good once I received the plate.
The burger was cooked well-done as they do it most places. I guess that’s a standard for most cafes that they can’t figure out how to do anything else. Too bad.
The burger was so-so. There was a lot of water in this burger. I suspect they just rinsed the lettuce and it had a lot of water on it. The bacon was crisp but didn’t add much of a taste to the burger.
The burger was overall super traditional and there was nothing special about this burger. It was a good average burger but nothing I would come back and have again.
The fries were thick cut fries and they were actually very good considering the poor burger. They were crisp and warm and soft in the middle. Nice touch.
If you like burgers, go somewhere else but if you like breakfast, The House Cafe is probably a great place.
